Who We Are…

Becky Hey y’all. I’m Dyxie. I am, among other things, 36 ¾ years old, pasty white, chock full o’ puddin’ and if you cut me, I bleed rainbow sprinkles. When I am not protecting the fine people of Northwest Louisiana from impending doom, I enjoy taking photos, tapping my feet and snapping my fingers to one-hit-wonders of the 80’s, playing dress up and nommin’ on treats. You can see my photos here or drop me a line at dyxiepyxie@gmail.com. |

DK I’m David, and I made this site because I wanted to add my voice to the growing (no pun intended) number of fat-acceptance advocates, while offering a male perspective in what is largely (again, no pun intended) a female comprised Fatosphere. I’ve never liked the idea of societal standards being dictated by the media, and the uninspired masses accepting it without a thought. I want to show the world that not only does real beauty comes from within, but it also comes in a variety of sizes. |

Sam Writer, amateur, shooter-off at the mouth, and silent dissident. Sammy Emm has had a long career in speaking to an apparent non-audience. She has no discernible taste or talent but can be seen walking the country side, eating small animals that have the misfortune of crossing into her wake. *Thump* |

Sara I’m Sara, but most of my friends call me Peeps. I’m a smart-mouthed native Austinite who loves to take pictures and write. You should be warned that I have a decidedly wrong sense of humor that I try to keep in check. When I’m not working, doing something creative and/or deviant, or with my friends, I’m probably chasing my dogs around the lake. If you want to see what I take pictures of (which is mostly of myself), you can do that here. |

I’m mainly responding to DK’s comments recently regarding the dilemma you guys face on the web site and it’s direction, etc.
Firstly I would like to say that I’m of the fat acceptance pursuasion, and whilst I like to see pictures of confident bbw/ssbbw and not pure porn, your site tends to hit the mark well. Overall I would say it’s ‘cleaner’ and more geared towards the FA-movement rather than the abuse or porn oriented sites of which there are plenty – and so few of your type of site.
However I do share your dilemma somewhat regarding the objectifying of women in the bbw camp. I want you to know this is not a problem that is unique to your site. A while ago dawn french and alison moyet (british comedienne and singer respectively) did a 6 part film on you-tube regarding this very subject. Dawn, a very funny BBW comedienne went on a personal journey to discover her beauty and sexuality and to try and find answers on the subject; however ended the film concluding between the lines that she felt it ended up feeling as if the only way a bbw/ssbbw could be accepted as beautiful was if she was ’shag-able’. at which point alison (who had said little in the film) replied – ‘thats bollocks’.
So the bottom line is; you are not alone.
However I would say this; if we go down the other road of not glamourising bbw’s, etc and beat the size acceptance drum there is a danger of not attracting any attention. people would say- yeah theres this little niche group of big women under tents hiding their bodies away and talking about the subject rather than acting.
I think bbw’s should be ’shot’ in photographic ways that are artistic, and demonstrate them as beautiful, and oozing quality and confidence.
Also, why shouldn’t a bbw get a photo-shoot that involves less clothing? or portrayed in a way that makes her incredibly appealing – skinny chicks take this for granted. if we deny women the opportunity to be viewed in an objective way it’s kind of descriminating.
so perhaps the answer is to portray a balance. Lets allow bbws to be sexy and admired, but at the same time lets also portray them as beuatiful, intelligent, soccessful and confident. I think all of those things could be positive. It’s just about balance.
many thanks, keep on trucking!!
