As a photographer of plus size models, I was pleased to come across adipositivity.com (NSFW), featuring the fine photography of Substantia Jones, and eye-candy models for those of us who appreciate a big, voluptuous physique.
Upon my discovery of the site, I was intrigued, and I wanted to know more. A search led me to another blog featuring Substantia Jones, in a piece called Big Girls in Art. The article raised an interesting point, one which I never would have considered, the existence of something called the Headless Fatty. We all know him/her; the unflattering gut, gunt, frontbutt, fupa or fat ass which fills the frame, in a televised news segment on obesity.
The post goes onto to compare Substantia’s fine art photos to the images of “Headless Fatties”, and I can see the author’s point about wishing “she had included the faces as a way of forcing viewers to confront the woman in her entirety, with each subject’s face and personality and unique visage represented along with her body.” Fair enough.
Apples and Oranges, I say. Statement-making or not, I’m a fan of the imagery. It raises the bar higher for my own photographic pursuits (NSFW), and I also found a couple of great new Fat Positive blogs.
Hot BBW – Brenda Jean
I want to introduce you all to my new friend Brenda Jean. As a stand out on Flickr’s Fatshionista group, with over 100 outfits posted, I couldn’t help noticing her right away as a creatively talented, stylish, young woman.
The fearlessness with which she constructs (and often deconstructs, then reconstructs) the items in her wardrobe, is fascinating, as is her ability to create a varied look on a shoestring budget. Most of all, I dig her classic sensibility. She embodies the spirit of everything I want BBW Deluxe to be about.

Ruby’s BFF?
Here’s an amusing image of a portly Barbie. I like to imagine her and Ruby reenacting scenes from Sex and the City, getting their Cosmos on, meeting for lunch dates and walking out of Lane Bryant, each with a bevy of shopping bags in tow. Maybe they could even complain about the men in their lives too, expounding on their sexual and emotional inadequacies, while pondering why a certain pair of Jimmy Choo’s are not available in wide sizes.
